All Eyes on Web3 Germany

Coinbase - Ledger - Solana - Celestia - Wormhole - Staking Facilities - Cosmos - Berlin Blockchain Week

A beautiful GM GM and a warm welcome to the w3-catch-of-the-week, the newsletter that will guide you through Berlin Blockchain Week.

Since I am currently focused on providing you with the best on-site experience for the ✨BBW✨, I would like to use this edition exactly for that purpose.

And if you're wondering: What exactly is Berlin Blockchain Week?

Imagine it as Fashion Week, but for nerds. For a little more than 7 days, the Web3 community gathers in Berlin to host various types of events - from hackathons, meetups, brunches, workshops to Community Runs (yes, we will also host a w3.run)

And a major part of these events (from the 20th until the 30th of May) will take place at our w3.hub - ✨yay

In the next few minutes, I will guide you through my absolute highlights of the week.

However, if you prefer watching to reading, you can also check out my video explanation.

BasedBerlin Hackathon - by BASE & Ledger

We kick off Berlin Blockchain Week with a Farcaster Frames Hackathon by Coinbase & Ledger.

BASE, which emerged from the Coinbase ecosystem and is one of the top Layer 2s, is celebrating at w3.hub for the second time.

The first BASE event in Germany @w3.hub

What is the Hackathon about and why Farcaster?

We have extensively discussed Frames before. In short:

"Farcaster is a decentralized social media protocol that emphasizes social interaction and decentralization, rather than finance. It enables developers to create a variety of apps, giving users the freedom to choose or design their own social media experience."

"Frames are small, interactive apps within Farcaster posts, enhancing functionality and engagement. They support activities ranging from games to polls directly in the social feed, making the content interactive."

If you are a developer and want to build on Base, the hackathon might be something for you.

You will have the opportunity to showcase your project and even win some USDC!

And for those who want to stay for a Happy Hour, you can sign up here.

Overnight Hackathon by Solana

You are likely familiar with the people from Solana due to the numerous Build Stations and Solana Mixers that their local community arm Superteam Germany has hosted here.

I have shared the vibe in numerous LinkedIn posts (like this one here).

You might say: “But I have been to many hackathons before, why should I join this one?”

Well, have you ever participated in an Overnight Hackathon? The team from the Solana Foundation is flying in for Blockchain Week to work with you (65 selected developers) on your ideas.

The event will take place on two floors (one floor to sleep, duh), so there's plenty of room for everyone who's eager to build on Solana.

And yes - there is also a prize pool of $15,000.

All additional information and participation conditions can be found in the invite.

What about a w3-event?

Our last w3.pizza Family & Friends event was quite a while ago (December, to be exact).

So, you might legitimately ask: “Wen next 🍕?”

The answer: 25th of May!

Together with Celestia and our friends from Tokenize.it & Unstoppable Finance, we are planning a full afternoon filled with exciting insights on the topics of: Applications, Modular Blockchains, Real-world use cases, & Payments.

Staking Facilities & Wormhole: Guardians of the Multichain

The team from Staking Facilities are regular guests at w3.hub.

This time, they're bringing a new friend - make room for Wormhole (a.k.a the airdrop many of you probably still have in your pocket).

Now, read this event blurb as this was a ✨very dramatic movie trailer✨:

“As the world is starting to embrace crypto and it is becoming more apparent that a lot of economic activity is moving on-chain, we want to reinforce the notion of a multi-chain world.”

As the leading interoperability platform for multichain bridges and applications, Wormhole fully embodies this concept. This is why the SF team wants to provide a place for the Wormhole community and ecosystem partners to connect, exchange, and promote the vision of a 'web of web3'.

The agenda is still to be announced, but trust me, it's going to be exciting!

🍻 Expect a full day of workshops, presentations, panels, as well as games, music, food and drinks.

Cosmos-Week

Last week, I was in the Twitter Space for Cosmoverse, where I had the opportunity to talk about Berlin as an exciting location for the Web3 community.

The Cosmos community seems equally enthused, as they are organizing Cosmos Week at w3.hub.

🔊 Shoutout to one of the organizers Juri Maibum, who is not only a w3.hub member, but also supports us through our Open House Days.

Monday kicks off with Cosmoverse, a full-day event packed with keynotes/panels, an exhibition area, F&B, and much more.

This year, the event will focus on chain abstraction, modularity, AI, and DePIN.

After that, we'll dive into the three-day-long Awesome Wasm Hackathon. More information on this can be found here.
