I'm sure most people know Telegram as a messenger app - but did you know that you can use hundreds of apps within Telegram?

From games to trading bots to your wallet, Telegram is becoming a Web3 Super App and that's not just reflected in the price of $TON.

📖 History of TON

In 2018, TON was launched by Pavel Durov, CEO of Telegram, to develop a powerful Layer 1 blockchain. The blockchain was originally known as “Gram”, but after the SEC classified the blockchain as a security in 2020, Pavel handed the project over to independent developers from the community.

👉 They founded The Open Network, and renamed “Gram” to TON.

The development of use cases nowadays in Telegram are technically enabled by the integration of the TON blockchain and its native token $TON.

Setting up a crypto wallet in Telegram is super easy. Just search for "Wallet" inside Telegram and get it ready in less than a minute.

😎 Mini Apps

Mini Apps are technically dapps and use Web3 technologies, but the good thing about the Mini Apps in Telegram is that users don't need to have any prior knowledge of blockchain etc. The use case is in the foreground and the technology happens in the backend.

Head of Investment Justin Hyun describes it as follows: "Bringing 500 million people on-chain by 2028 - which is our goal - is going to require use cases that interact with the blockchain without the user knowing that in the front end."

Recently, Telegram started allowing ads that you can pay for with Toncoin.

The interesting part: Half of what's made from these ads goes to the people who run the Telegram channels.

👼 The birth of Degen

The token was created on the decentralized social-media platform Warpcast.

Warpcast uses the decentralized protocol Farcast, to put it simply: Warpcast is like Twitter without Elon Musk - a decentralized platform where the power is in the hands of the users and not in the hands of a central authority like a company.

As this platform's user base grew, the need for a unique way to recognize and reward valuable community contributions emerged. That’s were $Degen comes into play.

🤓 How to earn $Degen

$Degen is distributed based on users' posts and activity on Warpcast. Here is your step-by-step guide:

1. Connect your MetaMask Wallet

2. Switch to the Base Network

3. Fund your wallet with $ETH on Base

4. Swap $ETH for $Degen

With at least 10,000 $DEGEN in your wallet, you're set to start. Create more than three posts, and then you can begin tipping $DEGEN to others or receive tips yourself.

Tip someone by commenting, for example, "200 $DEGEN".

🧐 What is a Layer 3?

An additional layer designed to further offload the Ethereum network by processing transactions outside of Ethereum's main network.

How it works:

• Transactions are first carried out on the Layer 3 chain, such as the Degen Chain.

• These transactions are then collected and processed on a Layer 2 solution such as Base.

• Subsequently, the results of these transactions, which are now compressed, are transferred to the Ethereum main network. This means that Layer 3 does not send the data directly to Ethereum, but runs through a Layer 2 solution that serves as an intermediate step.

The Debate

Advocates of this structure like Degen because it makes it cheaper for users to use the network and reduces competition for space on the blockchain.

However, critics fear the following problems:

• It could lead to more centralized control

• Divide resources even more between the different layers

• Create risky reward systems where Layer-2s benefit more economically and leave Ethereum with less value, especially if Layer-3s use their own token for gas fees - as in the case of Degen
